He writes his name on you
Children's sermon
Object:
the baptismal font
Do you see this? This is where we baptize people. Raise your
hand if you have ever seen a baptism. (Show of hands.) We believe
in this church that when we are baptized we become members of
Christ's family. We are adopted as children of God and we belong
to him.
In this lesson, the Apostle John has a dream about heaven.
He sees a lot of wonderful and amazing things. One of the things
he sees is all of the members of God's family gathered together.
The family members are all worshiping God, and his name is
written on their foreheads. I wonder what that means? Do you
think all those people had tattoos on their foreheads? What do
you think it means to have God's name written on your forehead?
(Discuss.)
I'm not sure what that looks like, but I think I know what
John is telling us. When we become members of God's family, we
belong to him. He loves us and he protects us. We are joined with
God and all the other children into one big family. Kind of like
some family members share the same name, all of God's children
share his name.
In John's vision, all the family members live with God in
heaven. They are safe and happy. They have all they need to eat
and drink, and they don't have any sadness. I think that John's
vision is a beautiful one, and we have been promised that things
will be like that for us as members of God's family.
Prayer: Dear God, thank you for loving us. Accept us as members
of your family, and teach us how to be the children you want us
to be. Amen.
