He'll be back!
Children's Activity
Object:
Teachers or Parents: The focus of our attention as we
consider the ascension of Jesus needs to be on the fact that he
promised to return in the same manner that he ascended. We want
our children to be aware that Jesus is going to return, and we
need to be ready when that great event takes place.
*Play a game with the children as follows: Explain that you
are going to send somebody out of the room and that person will
return within sixty seconds. Each child is to guess a number
between 1 and 60, which they believe will be the moment of the
person's return. All have to pick a different number so you might
want to prepare slips numbered from 1 to 60 if there are a large
number of children. If you want, you can have a prize for the
winner. Send the person out, and then use a stopwatch if
available to time the exact moment of return. When the game is
over, talk about how Jesus ascended and promised to return, but
we don't know the exact moment of his return. The important thing
is for us to believe he will return and be ready for that event.
Sunday school assembly opening:
*Have a balloon ascension to begin Sunday school. Prepare
balloons with postcards addressed to the church to attach to the
balloons. You may want the children to write their name or a
message on the postcard. It will be fun for them to see if
someone who finds them returns any of the postcards. As you watch
the balloons disappear into the sky, talk about the ascension of
Jesus.
