He'll be back
Children's sermon
Object:
a toy car
Good morning! Has your mother or father ever left you at
home while they went away to the store or somewhere? (Let them
answer.) Yes, that's fairly common for one of our parents to do.
They leave you home and they drive off in the car to do whatever
they need to do. Now, let's say that this toy car here (show the
car) is the car they drive away in. When they come back, do you
expect them to come back in the same car? (Let them answer.) Yes,
of course, we expect them to come back in the same car that they
left in. Let me ask one other question: Are you very sure that
they will come back? (Let them answer.) Yes. In fact, they will
usually tell you that they will be back and give you some idea
when to look for them, right? (Let them answer.)
Well, that's exactly what Jesus has told us. When he left to
go back into Heaven, he promised us that he would come back the
same way he had left. He left by going up into the clouds, and he
will come back the same way. You believe your parents when they
say that they will be back. Shouldn't we believe Jesus when he
makes the same promise? (Let them answer.) Yes, we certainly
should. Jesus never breaks a promise.
Today is Christ The King Sunday. On this day, we remember
the promise that Jesus made to come back to us the same way that
he left. We don't know exactly when he will be back, but we know
for sure that he will come. Let's thank Jesus for making this
wonderful promise.
Dear Jesus: We thank you so much for your promise to return to us
and take us all to live with you forever in Heaven. Whenever you
come, we will be ready. Amen.
