How many know him?
Children's Activity
Object:
Teachers or Parents: Christmas has unfortunately become a
purely secular holiday for most people in our current society.
Our children should not only know the real meaning of Christmas,
but they should be encouraged to let others know about it also.
*Set up a display of lots of different Christmas symbols,
both secular and religious. Discuss each one with the children,
explaining the meaning of each. Clearly identify those that have
no connection with the birth of Jesus and make sure they realize
the importance of using symbols that do proclaim the birth of
Christ.
*Ask the children if any have friends who are not in this or
any other church this morning to celebrate the birth of Jesus.
Talk about why this is so. Why do people who don't believe in
Jesus still celebrate Christmas, but only in a secular way? Show
them that this gives us an opportunity to share the real meaning
of Christmas with these friends.
*Read John 1:14 and ask the children to draw a picture that
illustrates what these words relate.
Sunday school assembly opening:
*Using a manger scene, either a display or a picture, ask
the children to identify the various figures in the display.
