I grow up
Children's Activity
Object:
Teachers: This week's theme centers on Jesus' parents taking
him to the temple. The story concludes with the statement: "The
child grew and became strong, filled with wisdom; and the favor
of God was upon him."
For this project you will need paper and pencils, a bathroom scales, and a measuring tape. Set up an area of the room to measure each student's height and record each student's weight.
Give each student a sheet of 8 1/2 by 11 paper. At the top have students write "I Am Growing Up." Luke 2:40
Below that have them write in the following:
My name ________________________________________________
My birthday ____________________________________________
My age _________________________________________________
My grade in school ______________________________________
My weight _______________________________________________
My height ______________________________________________
Have them complete these sentences:
I can be helpful to others by ___________________________
(suggest things like helping at home, taking care of my pets, being friendly.)
I grow in my mind by _____________________________________
(suggest things like reading, going to Sunday school, listening to other ideas.) Have each student draw the outline of his hand on the paper.
Parents: Your child is discovering that he is growing. Get a newspaper roll or tape two pieces of poster board together. Have your child lie down on the paper. With a marker, draw the outline of your child on the paper. Help your child color in the outline and display the life size drawing in your home. Date the drawing and when you are finished with it, roll it up. Save it so that you may give it to your child next Christmas. It will show how much he has grown in a year.
