cutout footprints leading to a cross on the altar
Good morning, boys and girls. How many of you have ever placed
your foot in wet cement to make a footprint? When the cement
dried your footprint was part of the new sidewalk. (Let them
answer.) How many of you have ever walked along a beach and
looked back to see your footprints in the sand? (Let them
answer.)
It's fun to make marks with your footprints. When you place them in wet cement you will soon find that you are growing bigger. When you go back in a year you will find your foot is larger than it was when you made your footprint. There is another kind of footprint. It's not as footprints in cement or the sand. It's when you play outside in the mud, and then you get hungry and go inside. Along the way you forget to wipe your feet. What kind of footprints are those? (Let them answer.)
This morning we have some footprints that some of you may have already noticed. Where do these footprints lead? (Let them answer.) They lead to the cross. These footprints represent the steps taken by Jesus. Our Bible story today says that God has put all things under the feet of Jesus. That means that Jesus is the ruler over all of us. This Sunday is called Christ The King Sunday. It is a day that we recognize that Christ is our King. It is a way of saying that we are under his feet. It is a day of celebration in the church. The celebration is because Christ overcame death on the cross. That's where the footprints lead. When he overcame death on the cross he became our king.
The next time you make or see some footprints think of Jesus. Jesus is our king.
