An important message
Children's sermon
Object:
a drawing of the little flag on computer email that says this message is very important or bring in your laptop so that the children can see the actual flag
Good morning, boys and girls. How many of you like important things? (let them answer) What is something really important to you? (let them answer) It could be a video game or a favorite doll or your special blanket or anything that you really love.
If I were to ask your mom or dad, they would probably tell me that you and your brothers or sisters or the other parent were the most important people to them. If we took away people, they might say that their house or their car was the most important. Some people would say that their job was the most important or even their bank account. Things that are important to us sometimes carry a red flag.
On my computer, I receive and send lots of messages. Every day I get something that someone thinks is very important, so they mark it with a little red flag right by the message. When I read my messages I always open the messages with the little red flag first. Sometimes, the message is very important and I am glad that they marked it with the red flag.
If Paul had been writing his message on a computer he would have marked it with a red flag. In the Bible, Paul says that Jesus died for our sins just like the scriptures said he would, but he didn't just say it that way, he said that it was such an important message that he would call it the first important message that everyone should hear.
Now, Paul knew what was really important and he did his very best to share the important news about Jesus with everyone he met. Sometimes people did not want to listen, but he delivered the message like it was more important than living itself. Sometimes people could hardly wait to hear the good news about Jesus, and Paul would tell them how they were saved by Jesus with such enthusiasm that people would just stand there and wonder how anything could be that important.
The good news of Jesus needs a red flag. Everyone should hear it. We should make little red flags and wear them on our clothes or coats so that people would ask us, "Why do you wear that little red flag?" Then we could say we had a very important message and the message was that Christ died for our sins.
Maybe next week you will wear a little red flag and I will ask you about it. I am sure that many people would ask you as well. Amen.
