It's in the book!
Children's Activity
Object:
Teachers or Parents: Jesus, our Master, tells the two
disciples on the road to Emmaus that they need to read the book
and let their minds be opened to see that the Scriptures speak of
him and reveal what must happen to him. Our children must see
that what God has revealed in His Holy Word is the truth.
*Bring an old science textbook of some kind and point out to
the children all the things in the book that are no longer true
based on modern discoveries. Then show the Bible and ask how many
errors are in it. When you have established that there are no
errors in the Bible, point out the difference between human and
divine authorship.
*Show a small picture of Jesus and explain that we will play
a game called "Let's find Jesus." Have the children cover their
eyes or leave the room and hide the picture in a Bible which you
will leave in plain sight. Start the game and let them hunt for
the picture. You can offer a reward of some kind to the person
who finds Jesus. If nobody discovers the picture in the Bible,
give them hints to help them find it. When the picture is found,
have a discussion about the fact that we can always find Jesus in
the Bible.
Sunday school assembly opening:
*Sing "The B-I-B-L-E, That's The Book For Me."
*Build a card house out of cards with names of the books in
the Bible on the cards. Use as many as you need to build the
house and use some Old Testament and some New Testament books.
Build it so that removal of any card will cause the card house to
fall. Then let someone remove one of the cards and have the
structure tumble. Use this to explain how the entire Bible is
interdependent.
