Jesus and crayons
Children's sermon
Object:
a box of crayons
Good morning, boys and girls. Can you imagine coloring a
picture with only one color, when you have a box of crayons like
mine? (Show your crayons and let them answer.) When I draw a
picture I use as many colors as I can, don't you? (Let them
answer.)
I want to tell you a story about two girls about your age who were drawing pictures. One girl loved the color red. The other girl loved the color pink. Each girl drew her picture using only her favorite color. The picture that each girl drew was nice, but not very colorful. Eventually, the girl using pink asked to borrow the red crayon. The girl using the red borrowed the pink. Next the girls started to use different colors from the box. They added green, orange, yellow and brown to their drawings. Soon their pictures were very colorful and very beautiful.
Coloring with many crayons reminds me of Jesus. Jesus doesn't just like red or pink. He likes all colors. He loves people of all colors. Jesus doesn't just love one kind of person. Jesus loves all kinds of people from many different places. Jesus doesn't just love people who live only in small towns or only in large cities. He loves people who live everywhere. Jesus doesn't just love people who only have short names, or those who only have long names. He loves people with all sizes of names. Jesus doesn't just love people who only have blue eyes, or who only have brown eyes. He loves people no matter what color eyes they have. Jesus doesn't just love people who live in the United States and Canada. He loves people who live all over the world. Jesus loves people who live near the North Pole, in Europe, in Africa, in Asia and South America.
The next time you use crayons, think of Jesus. The best picture you can draw will have more than one color in it. Just as you may love all your crayon colors, Jesus loves people of many colors too. Jesus loves all of us and all the things that make us different.
