Jesus can heal
Children's Activity
Object:
Teachers or Parents: We need to impress on our children that
the worst possible disease is sin. All other disease can do no
more than kill the body, but sin kills the body and the soul.
Without the healing that Jesus provides, our sin would condemn us
eternally. We can use this week's Gospel text to impress this
fact on the children.
*Put up the names of several serious diseases on a board or
easel. Ask the children to name the one that is the most serious
of all, the one that they believe is the worst possible disease
they could contract. When they have discussed several, tell them
that the most serious disease is not listed. It is a disease that
every one of them has and if it is not treated, it will kill
them! Let them try to guess what that might be, and if they fail
to do so, list in large letters the word "SIN." Discuss how this
disease will kill the body and the soul eternally, so it is much
the worst possible disease.
*Following the above exercise or in instead of it, go over
the names of various serious diseases that are listed on a board
or easel and ask them what kind of doctor they would go to for
treatment of that disease. After they have identified the kind of
doctor that would treat the diseases, ask them what doctor will
treat the most serious disease of all, sin. Next to the word
"SIN," write "Dr. Jesus." Discuss with them how Jesus can save us
from this terrible disease that is much more serious than any of
the others.
Sunday school assembly opening:
*Open with a prayer for healing. You may want to name
specific people in the congregation who are ill and need healing.
Discuss the Gospel account of Jesus healing the woman with a
hemorrhage.
