Jesus is God!
Children's sermon
Object:
a mirror
Good morning! I want you to look into this mirror and tell
me what you see there. (Let several of them look into the mirror
and identify themselves.) Now, are all of you sure that the
person you saw in the mirror was yourself? Do any of you doubt
that the person you saw was yourself? (Let them answer.) Okay, so
we all agree that when we look in the mirror, we see our own
reflection, and we have no doubt that what we see is an exact
reflection of ourselves.
Now, the Bible tells us that Jesus is a reflection of God's
glory. It says he is an exact imprint of God's very being. That
means that if God looked into a mirror, He would see Jesus, and
if Jesus looked into a mirror, he would see God. What this means
is very clear. It means that Jesus is God! Do all of you believe
that this is true? Do you believe that Jesus, the one whose
birthday we are celebrating today, and God are one and the same?
(Let them answer.) I hope you do believe that, because it's
absolutely true. It's a hard thing to understand, but it is true.
There is only one God, but there are three persons in that one
God. We call that the Trinity. Jesus is one of those persons, so
he is God. It's important for you to know that, because there are
some people, even some who call themselves Christians, who don't
believe it. Let's ask God to give us a strong faith on this
Christmas morning so that we will believe it.
Dear Father God: We find it hard to understand how You can be one
God and still be three persons, but we know that it's true.
Strengthen our faith on this Christmas Day so that we will always
believe what You tell us even if it is hard to understand. Amen.
