Jesus shows us the way to God
Children's Activity
Object:
A lot of children (and adults) are surprised that Easter
goes on for so long. We aren't still talking about the morning of
the empty tomb, but we are still talking about the length,
breadth, depth, and width of God's love for us. Today's Gospel
Lesson is poignant because we get to hear Jesus' heartfelt plea
that all people would come to know God more personally. We get
some insight into the burden that Jesus has been carrying for us
this whole time.
You can help explain to children the importance of Jesus by
using a road map. Let's say that you had someplace you needed to
be, but you didn't know how to get there. Before showing the
children the map, ask the children what they would do. How would
they know which way to go? Wouldn't they get lost without the
right directions? Then show them the map. Jesus said that he is
the Way. He is the map. If we follow Jesus, we will know the
right way to go.
Encourage the children to pray and get to know God better.
If we speak to God, he will be faithful to answer. Sometimes it
takes a while, and sometimes God speaks very softly, but he will
speak. Today's lesson tells us that God wants to be in
relationship with us, and Jesus' main objective is to help that
relationship happen. Remind the children that they can have their
own special relationships with God too. It's the thing that Jesus
wanted most in the world.
