The Jews and the Gentiles
Children's sermon
Object:
green, red, and yellow M&M's
Good morning, boys and girls. Do you remember when we said Jewish people were the children of God? (let them answer) God came to the Jewish people thousands of years ago and adopted them.
Most of us were born Gentiles, which is everyone who is not a Jew. You are a Gentile and I am a Gentile. Both the Jews and the Gentiles fell into sin and were separated from God. So that means that we were all living in sin. (hand out two green M&M's to each child) One of the green M&M's is for the Gentiles and one is for the Jews.
Then God sent his Son, Jesus, into the world to save us. (hand out one red M&M to the children) I handed you a red M&M that stands for something special. It stands for the blood of Jesus and his sacrifice on the cross. Jesus died for our sins and made us children of God, but not all the Jews believed Jesus was the Savior. They were still living by the laws that Moses received thousands of years ago. So you have two green M&M's and only one red M&M.
But now I have a third M&M color: yellow. I am going to give each of you two yellow M&M's because the Bible says we are not to worry about the Jews and their salvation. If Jews choose to follow the teachings of Jesus, they shall enjoy the benefits every day they live on earth, but if they don't follow us in our Christian ways and they keep their laws then God says he will still keep the promise he made to them.
Is this hard to understand? (let them answer) Remember this: God chose the Jews to be his messengers to the world about one God. He gave them laws to follow so that they would remain faithful. God sent Jesus to replace the laws and offered everyone who believed in him salvation. Many Jews stayed by the laws while some Gentiles accepted Jesus as the Savior. But since God never goes back on a promise, the Jews will always be God's children. I hope I helped you understand, but if not maybe you can ask your mother or father to explain it to you in a better way.
God loves you, I love you, and I pray that you will have a wonderful day and that you will remember that you have been chosen by God to be one of his children.
