Keep a promise

Good morning, boys and girls. How many of you have jobs that
you do at home each week? (Wait for a show of hands.) I imagine
that some of your jobs might be to feed your pets, clean your
rooms or help set the table at a meal. Do some of you have those
jobs? (Let them answer.) I want to tell you about a little girl
who had some jobs at home. Once the parents of a little girl
asked if the girl would help do some things around the house each
week. She said she's promise to help. She and her parents made a
chart of jobs that she would do every day. On Mondays she agreed
to feed the family cat. On Tuesdays she agreed to set the dinner
table. On Wednesdays she agreed to collect all the waste paper
and place it in the garbage trash container. On Thursdays she
agreed to help dry the supper dishes. On Fridays she agreed to
take the sheets off her bed so that they could be washed. On
Saturdays and Sundays she had the day off from jobs.
The little girl started to do her jobs each day. But after a while she grew tired of these jobs. One day the cat didn't get fed. Another day the dinner table wasn't set. Another day the trash wasn't collected. Her parents soon learned that although she promised to do these things, she couldn't keep her promises. If you were her parents what would you do about this? (Let them answer.) Jesus spoke about people who promised to do things. He said that when you promise to do something you should do it. That way people trust you. It is very important to keep promises. I want to show you something that is a symbol of a promise that I made. (Show your wedding ring.) This is my wedding ring. It is a symbol of a promise I made when I was married. I promised to be a good husband/wife in good times and bad times. I promised always to be faithful to my husband/wife. My ring reminds me of that promise. Sometimes promises are hard to keep. Jesus wants us to try very hard to keep all the promises that we make.
