Keep your temple clean
Children's sermon
Object:
tooth brush
Good morning, boys and girls. How many of you brush your teeth
before you go to bed? (Show your tooth brush and let them
answer.) How many of you take showers or baths? (Let them
answer.) How many of you comb your hair? (Let them answer.) I
want to tell you a story about a little boy about your age who
never did any of the things that you said you just do.
Once there was a little boy who never brushed his teeth. He never took a bath or shower. He never combed his hair. He never cleaned his fingernails. I don't think that he even ever blew his nose. There are some more things I want to tell you about this boy. He always went to bed late, so he never got enough sleep at night. He was always tired during the day. Since he was tired he was always grouchy. He never ate the right kinds of food. He usually ate food with a lot of sugar. He ate many cookies and candy bars. He never ate fruit or vegetables. Because of his bad habits, he was often sick. This boy never took care of himself. Because he never took care of himself, he was usually in a bad mood. Since he was usually in a bad mood, he didn't have many friends. He did have one friend, however, whose name was Paul.
One day Paul sat down with his friend who never took care of himself. Here is what Paul said. "You need to start taking care of yourself. You need to start eating the right kind of food. You need to start brushing your teeth. You need to start taking baths or showers. You need to start getting a good night's sleep. Don't you know that your body is like our church building. If we don't take care of our church building, it will fall apart. If you don't take care of your body it will fall apart also. God lives in your heart. If you don't start taking care of your body, you will hurt God's spirit."
Do you think the friend listened to Paul? (Let them answer.) I want you to know that God's Spirit lives in you. God wants you to take care of your body. Keep it clean, eat the right food and get enough sleep at night. Don't be like Paul's friend, who never took a bath!
