A Kingdom of Love
Children's Activity
Object:
Parents or Teachers: Today's lesson is a discussion of Kings -- how they
are chosen and how they rule. It is Christ the King Sunday. Jesus is named
as king in several places in the Bible. He is known as the King of the Jews,
the Prince of Peace, the Sovereign One, Wonderful, and many other royal
names. Use purple background paper. Cut out a crown shape and label the
paper -- Christ the King Sunday. On smaller pieces of paper (1 inch by 3
inch) print some of the above names. Use more that you may also think of.
Also print qualities of Jesus that caused him to be thought of as King like
loving, fair, humble, gentle. Glue all these names and qualities on the
purple paper along with the crown. Decorate the crown with purchased
heart stickers to emphasize that Jesus' kingdom was one of love and also
that his love rules our hearts. As you work on the activity, discuss Jesus
as King and the difference between an earthly kingdom and a heavenly
kingdom.
