The Lamb of God
Children's Activity
Object:
Teachers and Parents: Jesus is our paschal lamb in the same
way that the first paschal lamb was a sacrifice that saved the
Israelites in Egypt. This Lamb of God was sacrificed on the cross
and, by his blood, we are saved. This symbolism can be understood
by the children.
* Ask the children to draw a picture of a lamb. Pin all the
pictures up on the wall so they are all visible. Amid the
pictures, pin up a picture of Jesus, and talk to them about his
role as the Lamb of God.
* Read Exodus Chapter 12 or explain what happens in that
chapter to the children. Then discuss how Jesus was the Lamb of
God who saved us, just as the blood of the lamb saved the
Israelites.
* Show the children a book of church symbols that includes a
picture of the Lamb of God. Talk about the symbol of the lamb. If
your church has a window or parament which depicts Jesus as the
Lamb of God, take the children to that and discuss it.
Sunday school assembly opening:
* Sing "Lamb of God, Pure And Holy" or any hymn that praises
the Lamb of God. Such hymns are usually found in the Lenten
section of the hymnal.
* Role-play the scene from Exodus where the angel passes
over the houses of the Israelites who have put the blood of the
lamb on their doorframes. Break the children up into families so
that everyone participates.
