A leader is needed
Children's Activity
Object:
Teachers or Parents: Jesus emphasizes in this text the need
for leadership. He was concerned about the people he saw who were
"like sheep without a shepherd." Children need to understand not
only the need for leaders, but also the need to respect and honor
all those leaders who are doing their jobs in a God-pleasing
manner.
*Write the Fourth Commandment on the board or easel and ask
the children to name ways in which they honor not only their
parents, but also all those who have legitimate authority over
them. As a part of this exercise, you will want to list all
those whom the children should recognize as leaders with
authority. This should include their teachers, political leaders,
and their pastor, who is a spiritual shepherd placed over them by
God.
*Ask the children to draw a picture of a shepherd and his
sheep. When they finish, let each one show the picture he/she has
drawn and talk about it. As they show the pictures, talk about
how the shepherd takes care of the sheep and leads them.
Sunday school assembly opening:
*Sing any of the hymns in your hymnal that speak of Jesus as
the Good Shepherd.
