Let's pray
Children's sermon
Object:
a picture of someone praying
Good morning, boys and girls. What is the person doing in this
picture that I have? (Let them answer.) The person is praying. I
imagine that most of you pray. I'd like to know when you pray.
How many of you pray before you eat? (Let them answer.) How many
of you pray when you go to bed? (Let them answer.) When else do
you pray? (Let them answer.) Another time we all pray is in
church. When you pray, you talk with God. There are many reasons
to talk with God. One reason is to thank God for something. When
you pray before you eat, you are thankful for food. When you pray
at bedtime, you are thankful for a good day and you ask God to
watch over you at night.
In our lesson this morning Paul was writing a letter to some Christians. Paul told them that he remembered them in his prayers. Paul told the Christians that he often prayed for them. In fact, he told them that he never stopped giving thanks to God for them. In his prayers he asked God to give them wisdom so that they could know God better. Paul knew that prayer can be a wonderful thing. There are many people in this church who pray often. Some of them even pray for you. Did you know that? (Let them answer.) You can be just like Paul, by praising God all the time and thanking God for all the things God has done for us.
Let's pray to God right now, just like the people in my picture. Let's bow our heads and fold our hands together and close our eyes and pray. And you may all say "amen" with me.
Dear God, thank you for all the things you've done for us. Help us to remember to always praise you. Thank you for all the people who pray for us. Let us some day be able to pray for them, too. "Amen."
