"Life goes on!"
Children's Activity
Object:
Teachers or Parents: Death is a subject we tend to avoid in
talking with our children, but we shouldn't try to avoid it.
Instead, we should speak of it in the positive sense of a new
beginning for those who believe. Today's Gospel text provides a
good background to talk about eternal life in Heaven with God.
*Have the children draw a picture of something in Heaven.
When they finish, have as many as there is time for explain what
they drew.
*Ask one child to leave the room. Now, ask those remaining
if they can believe the child that left is still living in
another room where we can't see him or her. Explain that this is
what death is like. The person who dies is just in another place
where we can't see him or her. Ask the child to return and
explain that this is what it will be like when we are all
together again in Heaven.
Sunday school assembly opening:
*Ask the children if any can tell you what we mean by
"eternity." When they have tried to explain it, demonstrate the
meaning by showing them a container of sand. Explain that our
life here is like one grain of sand, while eternity is a whole
beach full of sand ... and then some. When we go to Heaven, we
will be there forever.
