Lost and Found
Children's Activity
Object:
Parents or Teachers: Today's lesson is about the lost sheep and the lost
coin and how happy the shepherd and the woman were to find them. You
will need a tray for today's activity. On the tray place 10 or 15 items,
depending on the ages of the children. The items can be simple household
items like a clothespin, a spice container, a clip, a pencil, a spoon. Spread
them evenly on the tray. Choose one person to start the game. The chosen
child chooses one item while the rest of the children close their eyes or
turn the other way. (Make sure the children all see the tray first to see all
the items.) Then the children look carefully at the tray to see what's
missing. The first one to guess is the next one to choose an item to take
off the tray. In between each round, discuss the two stories. Mention how
the shepherd might have felt when one sheep was lost. Someone may ask if
he had 100 how he would ever notice if one was missing. Discuss this.
Talk about how you might feel it you were the lost sheep. Discuss how the
woman might have felt losing her coin. Talk about why the coin might have
been important to her. Talk about how they felt when they found the sheep
or the coin. Talk about the word "celebrate." Discuss how each one of us
is special to God.
