Love on Fire
Children's Activity
Object:
Parents or Teachers: In the lesson today Jesus states that he came to
bring fire to the earth. The message was that this fire Jesus speaks of is
not a fire lit with matches but the excitement created when Jesus taught
a new way of seeing life and living life. The fire Jesus brought was
dangerous because not everyone liked his message of love. If possible, you
may want to plan a campfire and talk about some of the ideas of the
message for today. If a campfire is not possible you may want to do an art
project. You will need some red, orange and yellow tissue paper.
Sometimes you can find all three colors on the same piece -- each color
gradually turns into the next color -- red to orange to yellow. On a double
piece of black paper draw the word LOVE, not with straight block letters,
but with lines of the letters to look like flames with points and wider
parts. Cut out the centers of the letters and put the tissue paper between
the two black pieces of paper. Either glue them around the edges or staple
the black paper together. Punch two holes at the top of the paper so it can
hang in a window like a sun-catcher.
