"Luke, the physician"
Children's Activity
Object:
Teachers or Parents: It is good that our children know more
about the Gospel writers than just their names. This week we have
an opportunity to get them better acquainted with the "Glorious
Physician," Luke, the companion of Paul, a man of science who was
led by the Holy Spirit to compose this Gospel of Jesus Christ.
*Have some pictures of Luke for the children to color. After
they have colored the pictures, have them tell a story about the
man they have colored. Ask them to use their imaginations. When
they have finished their stories, tell them what we really know
about Luke.
*Explain to the children that Luke, the author of the
Gospel, was a physician. Ask them to give reasons why a doctor
might be a good person to write a Gospel account of the life of
Jesus. List the reasons they give on the blackboard or easel. (Be
sure you list the fact that a doctor, being a scientist of a
sort, would be a good investigator.)
*Explain that three of the four Gospel writers were Jews.
Luke was the only Gentile. See if they can guess his nationality,
Greek. List several nationalities on the easel, including some
obvious errors like "American" or "Canadian." Have them pick the
correct one.
Sunday school assembly opening:
*If your hymnal has a hymn for Luke, sing that hymn. If not,
find one that sings the praises of the Bible as God's word.
