Make a joyful noise to God!
Children's sermon
Object:
a variety of different musical instruments or other
noisemakers
The Apostle John had a dream. He dreamed that he went to
heaven and he saw God sitting on a throne like a king. While he
was watching, he saw creatures of all kinds singing praises to
God and worshiping him.
These are some instruments I have brought. I'd like some of
you to help me with today's lesson, so I'm going to hand them out
for you to hold. Don't make any noise with them until I tell you!
(Hand out the instruments.) Okay. One at a time, I want each of
you to make a noise with your instrument. (Have the children take
turns.)
Now. We are going to pretend that we are some of the
creatures that John heard worshiping God. All the creatures were
different: some were from heaven and some were from earth. Some
were from the land and some were from the sea. Just like those
creatures, each of you has a different sound that you can make
with your instrument. On the count of three, let's all play them
at the same time and praise God with our noise. Those of you who
do not have an instrument can sing or shout along with us. Ready?
One, two, three! (Listen to the sounds.)
That was loud! Was it a pretty sound that we made? You know
what? It doesn't matter. What matters is that we were all
praising God with a sound that is special to each of us. That
makes God very happy. Nothing makes God happier than to hear the
praises of his people. It doesn't even matter how you do it --
just use whatever you have to love God and praise him as often as
you can. Let's tell God that we love him and make our noises
again!
Prayer: Dear God, listen to our praises as we tell you that we
love you. Thank you for being God. You are wonderful. Amen.
