Merry Christmas!
Children's sermon
Object:
a Christmas card
Good morning! Has your family received any of these this
year? (Show the card and let them answer.) Yes, I'm sure you got
a whole stack of them. Why do people send us Christmas cards?
(Let them answer.) I suppose the main reason we send cards is to
let our friends and relatives know that we are thinking about
them and we want to greet them at Christmastime. We want to tell
them that we love them, and we hope they have a good Christmas.
Have you ever gotten a Christmas card from God? (Let them
answer.) No, of course not. God doesn't send Christmas cards, but
He does love us and He does want us to have a nice Christmas.
While He has never sent anyone a Christmas card, He did send
something into the world to let us know that He loves us. What
did He send us? (Let them answer.) He sent His Son, Jesus, into
the world. When He did that, it was a lot better than sending a
Christmas card. He loved us so much that He sent Jesus to us to
live a perfect life and to do everything that was necessary so
that you and I could go to heaven. Isn't that a lot better than a
Christmas card? (Let them answer.)
Today is the birthday of Jesus. All over the world people
are celebrating his birthday, but there are lots of people who
still don't know what a wonderful gift God sent to us when Jesus
was born. But you and I know, don't we? So let's thank God for
this wonderful gift.
Dear God: We thank You so much for sending Your Son Jesus to us
on that first Christmas. He is better than all the Christmas
cards ever printed. Amen.
