A misunderstanding
Children's sermon
Object:
A newspaper
I once read a story in the newspaper about a boy who ran away
from home. This worried his parents terribly because, you see,
this boy had a medical problem that required medicine. Every day
he had to take the medicine or he would get very sick. But since
he had run away from home, no one knew where he was and they
could not get the medicine to him.
His parents called the police to help them look for their son. They were so very worried. The father and mother were looking everywhere and the police were looking everywhere.
When this boy found out that the police were looking for him too, he was scared. He thought he was really, really in trouble. He hid more so that no one could find him. He didn't know that the police and his parents wanted to find him so that they could help him and keep him from getting sick.
This story reminds me so much of Jesus. Jesus was the kindest, most loving, and closest to God of any person who has ever lived. Yet the people thought that he was a troublemaker. They wanted him to run away or be quiet and stop preaching and teaching and healing people, and when he didn't do that they killed him! They knew he hadn't done anything bad, but they didn't know that he came to help and save them. He came because he loved all people.
Dear Lord Jesus: Sometimes we misunderstand and forget that you want the best for us. You want us to trust you and love you because you love us so much. We are thankful that you are on our side. Amen.
