My favorite teacher
Children's sermon
Object:
an apple
Good morning, boys and girls. How many of you have ever given
your teacher a present? (Let them answer.) Have any of you ever
taken your teacher an apple? (Show them the apple and let them
answer.) I brought this apple because it is something that
students sometimes give their teachers. I want to tell you a
story about a teacher that everyone in school loved.
This was the first year for teaching by this teacher. It seemed that everything this teacher did was great. The teacher told good stories. When the teacher told stories everyone in the class quietly listened because the stories were so interesting. Even the usually noisy students listened. This teacher could explain things to students that were difficult to understand. Sometimes students would try to ask difficult questions, but this teacher always knew the answer.
There is another important thing I want you to know about this teacher. The teacher was interested in all of the students, not just certain students. Every student was important to the teacher. Whenever one of the students in the teacher's class became ill, the teacher knew how to make the student feel better. This teacher was more than a teacher -- he was like a doctor, because he could make his students well.
Very soon, word about this teacher spread throughout the entire school. The teacher became so popular that all the students in the school wanted to be in his classroom. Students and parents were amazed. They kept on asking one another, "What is this? A new teacher with such authority!" So, as the year went on, the teacher's fame began to spread throughout the school district and into other nearby towns.
Now I have a question for you. The teacher in this story is a very special teacher. Who do you think the teacher is? (Let them answer.) The teacher in my story is Jesus. He went from town to town teaching people about God. Everywhere that he went people came to hear him. He even healed sick people. As he taught and healed people, more people heard about him. He became very famous. When you go to school next week, remember that Jesus was a teacher.
