A palm branch
Good morning! What do I have here? (Show the palm.) That's
right. It's a palm branch. Why do we have palms in church this
Sunday? (Let them answer.) Yes, today is Palm Sunday, the day we
remember when Jesus entered into Jerusalem and ... (tell them
about the Triumphal Entry on Palm Sunday). Now, it was obvious
that those people really liked Jesus and honored him. His name was
important on that day, wasn't it? (Let them answer.)
The apostle Paul tells us that the Name of Jesus is very
important. He says a day is coming when everyone in the whole
world will honor that name. He says that when the name of Jesus is
mentioned, everyone will kneel and honor that name. Now, has that
day come yet? Does everyone in the world honor his name now? (Let
them answer.) No, it doesn't happen now, but it should. The name
of Jesus is the only name that can save us. No other name can do
that, only Jesus!
So, do you agree with Paul, and with me, that the name of
Jesus is very important? (Let them answer.) Good! Be sure to
remember that and always treat the name of Jesus with respect.
Never use the name, as some do, as a swear word! Always treat it
with respect. Will you promise to do that? (Let them answer.)
Dear Jesus: Help us to remember always how precious your name is
to us. Amen.
