The new that stays new
Children's Activity
Object:
Teachers or Parents: Make the days of Lent different
starting today. Some ideas (if you are not already doing some of
them):
*Have family mealtime devotions.
*Begin each day with prayer. End each day with prayer.
*Begin reading a small portion of the Bible as a family unit each day.
*Hang a countdown calendar to Easter. (These may be purchased or ordered through religious publishers.)
*Make your own Lenten countdown calendar by coming up with ideas as a class or family. Emphasize service to others and devotion to God.
*Take a daily or weekly offering for a special Lenten self- denial project of your choosing. (Lenten self-denial folders are available through religious publishers.)
*Each week take the Gospel lesson of the previous or upcoming Sunday and reread a portion or all of it as a family. Use different translations. Ask yourselves questions about the text. Listen closely on Sunday to see how the Gospel is used by the pastor.
*Start a Bible-reading program.
*Share a Bible story from a Children's Bible each day of Lent.
*Always remember that we live under grace and that missing a day of any new activity is all right.
