the throne saying, "See, the home of God is among mortals. He will dwell with them
as their God; they will be his peoples, and God himself will be with them." (vv. 1a,

Good morning, boys and girls. Do you like new things or old things? (let them answer) Most of you said new but do you like your old blanket or would you like a new blanket? Do you like your old school or do you want to go to a new school? I brought along some old things today to see what we think. First, I have some old socks that I brought with me. They are clean, old socks. They have been mended a few times because I keep sticking my toe through the end and making a hole. I am not sure if this is a pair or not because they don't look like they match. But they show up for work every day after they are washed. Now, I also have a brand new pair of socks. There are no holes in them, they are the same color, and they fit very nicely. If you had to choose one of these two pairs, which would you choose? The old pair or the new pair? (let them vote)
It looks like the new pair of socks won. I also brought shoes. I have had this pair for years. They are very comfortable except for the hole in the sole and the shoestrings that are broken. I also have a new pair of shoes. They are shiny, have good shoestrings, and no holes on the bottom of the sole. Which pair of shoes would you vote to keep and wear. (let them vote) Another vote for the new pair of shoes.
Let's try one more. I have an old pair of jeans at home that have been washed 1,000 times. They have patches and holes. The bottom of the pants' leg is frayed. They look pretty bad, although I know some people would love them this way. Then I have a brand new pair of jeans. No paint, no fraying, no patches, and they have never been washed. Which one would you choose? (let them answer) Everyone likes the new.
In the Bible reading today, the writer is Saint John, and he talked about a new city of God. It is going to be beautiful. God has made this new world for us to live in. It will be beautiful and there will be no suffering, no pain, no poverty, no loneliness, no fighting, nor anything that is bad. It will be brand new, made by God for all who are faithful and believe in him. How many of you would like to live in a city like the new city made by God? (let them answer)
It will be great, much better than new socks or shoes. It will be the greatest of all places to live and guess what else the Bible tells us about the new city of God? (let them answer) The Bible says that God will live with us and be a part of our lives every day and forever. Amen.
