One person at a time
Children's Activity
Teachers or Parents: Evangelism is such a simple thing -- telling the good news to one person at a time until everyone knows it!
*Write an invitation your students can give to a friend or relative inviting them to some event in Sunday school or some other church activity. Color the invitation, address them, whatever you choose to do. Invite the children to think of someone who would not normally come to this event without an invitation. The children then can give this person the invitation this week.
*Instruct the children to tell one or two or more members of the congregation "What Jesus Means To Me." Conclude by saying, "This is what Jesus means to me. What does Jesus mean to you?" In this way, the task of evangelism can take place among members. A wall can come down and perhaps the evangelistic message to outsiders will be easier.
*Challenge the whole church with what you are doing in Sunday church school. Have an "Invite a Friend" Sunday in a few weeks. Talk to your pastor and evangelism committee about the possibility of such a Sunday. It could be limited to the Sunday school program. (This might be the boost your program needs for the summer months when things generally lag.)
*Pick up on the harvest theme and challenge church members to pick the ripened fruit from their gardens and share it next Sunday with a produce table in the narthex.
*Use the garden produce table idea (above) and have a free will offering for fresh, donated produce. Proceeds can be given to your denomination's world hunger program or to a local food bank where it helps people "one person at a time." The table can be maintained all summer long. Members who don't have a garden can have garden-fresh produce, and an awareness of our responsibility for the hungry of the world can rise within the congregation.
*Have a special offering in Sunday school that can go toward your evangelism committee or the outreach committee of your denomination.
