Good morning! The Bible tells us that there is only one
"mediator" between God and us, and that mediator is Jesus Christ.
Now, do any of you know what a mediator is? (Let them answer.) I
brought a dictionary, so let's look the word up and see what it
means. (Show the dictionary and look the word up. Read the
definition and elaborate so you are sure they know what it
means.)
Okay, so we know now what the word means, so let's go back
to what the Bible says. It says that there is only one mediator
between God and us, and that one mediator is Jesus. Now, since
that is true, to whom do you think we should address our prayers?
Should we pray to Jesus or to somebody else? (Let them answer.)
Of course, we should pray to Jesus. He is the only mediator.
There is nobody else to pray to unless we simply pray directly to
God, and we can, of course, do that if we want. The thing we need
to understand is that we are wasting our prayer if we address it
to anybody other than God, Jesus, or the Holy Spirit. There is no
point in praying to angels or saints or anybody else. Jesus is
our only mediator!
Today is Thanksgiving. When you sit down today to eat your
Thanksgiving dinner, what's the first thing you are going to do?
(Let them answer.) I hope you will say a prayer of thanksgiving.
And who is that prayer going to be addressed to? (Let them
answer.) Yes, of course. Our prayers will always be addressed to
God either as God the Father, God the Son, or God the Holy
Spirit. Let's say a prayer right now.
Dear God: We have so much to be thankful for today, and the most
important thing we are thankful for is that You have given us
Jesus as our Savior and our only mediator. Help us to remember
that all of our prayers should be addressed to You and Jesus and
the Holy Spirit and to nobody else. Amen.
