Object:
Teachers or Parents: John 3:16 is often called "The Gospel in a
Nutshell." It is so called because it states the gospel truth so
succinctly. Everyone who believes in Jesus will not perish but
have eternal life. We all have a "Free Ticket" that admits us to
Heaven. Of course, the ticket is not free in the sense that
nobody paid for it. Jesus paid the full price for the ticket, but
for those who believe that he did so, it is a free ticket. There
is no more important message for children to learn than this one!
*Ask the children to name some places they would really like
to go, places they would want to visit like Disneyland or a
foreign country. List all the places that they name on the board
or easel. When you have several listed, ask them to tell you what
it would take to get to that place. Discuss the cost of travel,
entrance fees, and so forth. When you have discussed that to some
extent, add Heaven to the list and ask them what it will cost to
get there. Make sure the discussion makes the point that Jesus
has already paid the price for us to get into Heaven and all we
have to do is believe in him.
Sunday school assembly opening:
*Hand out tickets you have prepared to various things like
sporting events, concerts, movies, and so forth. Put a reasonable
price based on current values on each ticket. Among the tickets,
have one that is an admission to Heaven with the price marked as
paid in full. Ask each child to tell what ticket he or she
received and what it cost. Ask the child with the "Heaven" ticket
to speak last and discuss the price that Jesus paid for this
ticket.
