Pain relief
Children's sermon
Object:
A bottle of pain reliever
Sometimes when I get a headache or if I overdo it and my
muscles hurt or if I have the flu or some other illness, I'll
take one of these to help ease the pain. No one likes to hurt.
Sometimes the hurt is so bad that even one of these pain
relievers won't help. Besides that, there are other kinds of
hurts such as hurt feelings or hurt pride that nothing out of a
bottle can help.
The Apostle Paul wrote that suffering is not always bad. God can use sufferings to make us better people. Paul noted that suffering "produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope ..." (vv. 3-4).
Many people experience hurt -- we all do at some time or another. When people get hurt, they sometimes wonder why God allows it. Often we don't understand. Paul says that the pain can make us better people by giving us endurance, character and hope. These are important personality traits.
We trust God and believe that God gives a purpose, a reason, for our hurts. I'm glad we have a God who cares so much about each of us in that way, aren't you?
