The parable of the weeds
Children's Activity
Object:
Teachers or Parents: Here again we see a parable that shows
us the strong contrast between those who believe and those who do
not. This contrast must be clearly seen by our children so they
will understand the importance of being a believer and
continuing to believe in a world full of "weeds" who will always
try to influence those around them to become what they are.
*Give each child a printed card with the word "Wheat" or
"Weed" printed on it. Ask them to hide their card in some way and
then have them mill around together. Select one child to try to
separate the children into two groups, weeds in one group and
wheat in the other. When it is obvious that it can't be done
without seeing the cards, ask the children to hold up their cards
and then separate them into two groups. Discuss how it is
sometimes hard to see who in the world today is a believer and
who is not, but when Jesus comes, he will separate the two groups
just as easily as we did when they held up their cards.
Sunday school assembly opening:
*Open with a prayer of thanksgiving to God for making us His
people and giving us the promise of eternal life. Let the prayer
emphasize that we are grateful to be wheat and not weeds.
