Teachers: Love is one of the most important words in the Bible. Our lesson today is a message from Jesus about love. It is the familiar words: LOVE ONE ANOTHER. Love is an active word. It can be shown by actions. Talk about how we show love to one another. Some of the answers might be: hugging, kissing, doing things for others, taking a meal to someone, taking someone shopping, sending a card, or taking someone to the doctor's office. There are many ways to show love. Give them each a 12-inch by 18-inch piece of drawing paper. Divide it into four quarters by folding it in half vertically and then in half horizontally. Suggest that the children print the verse "Love one another" in one of the sections. The other three are for ways of showing love. Let them choose what each of them would like to draw. Have crayons or markers available for their pictures. Purchase some heart stickers - four for each child and let them put one in each square. If time permits, share the pictures. Display in classroom or send home.
Parents: When we get busy, it's hard to show love for others. Take time to plan some family activities to show love toward others. Perhaps you might make cards for shut-ins or visit them as a family. Children learn best by doing.
