Pictures of Jesus
Children's Activity
Object:
Teachers or Parents: The concept that Jesus is in all people
is radical -- even to experienced Christians. Yet the concept is
sound and if we were more diligent at seeing Christ in all
people, our world might improve dramatically.
*Honor Christ, the King, today by making a throne for him in your home or classroom.
*Make paper crowns and place on each person's head to remind each of us that Jesus is King, and we honor that fact by seeing Jesus in all people.
*Make paper for the members of the congregation. Be sure to talk to the pastor about the possibility of a small crown for each person's head to remind each of us that Jesus is our king and we honor him as king by honoring and esteeming all people.
*Call on Jesus by making a call on a hospital or nursing home patient -- perhaps even calling on someone incarcerated.
*Take up a special collection for world hunger.
*Read materials from your denomination about its world hunger program: Where are people being fed? With what? Who? How? What can our congregation do to help? Do it!
*Take up a collection of unused clothing and deliver it to a used clothing mission.
*Make a collage of people, gathered from photographs in news magazines and title it: Pictures Of Jesus. Hang it on the wall when finished.
*Make an outline of a body and hang it on the wall. With the various parts of the body show photographs or write descriptions of what your congregation is doing to serve people. At the head write the word JESUS. Explain how we are the body of Christ, doing his work of feeding, healing, preaching the gospel, and welcoming the stranger, but that we are controlled by Jesus -- our King.
*Explain the church year calendar and show how this is the last Sunday of the church year. Your church probably has a church year graph that can be posted on the wall. Make a church year calendar and color the appropriate seasons. Ask your pastor or altar guild for help, if needed.
