A place in heaven
Children's sermon
Object:
a property deed
Good morning, boys and girls. How many of you live in a house? (let them answer) Does anyone live in a mobile home or an apartment? (let them answer) Does anyone live in a tent? (let them answer)
Do you think you will live in your house for a long time? (let them answer) Did you move from another house to the house you now live in? (let them answer)
My grandmother only ever lived in one house. Her parents lived in that house and she was born in that house. After she was married, she and her husband lived in that same house, but most people live in a number of houses over the years.
If your parents bought the house where you live they have one of these. (show the property deed) It is an important piece of paper called a deed and it says that they own the house. The deed describes your piece of property in a precise way.
You may like where you are living so well that you do not ever want to leave, but can you live in your house forever? (let them answer) Forever is a long time and you can only live in a house as long as you are living. Why can't you live in your house for 1,000 years? (let them answer) That's right, because at some time you are going to quit living and you will die.
Then where are you going to go? (let them answer) We would like to think that the next place we live is going to be with God in heaven. We really like the idea of living with God where there is no pain or suffering. If you live with God, everyone will be your friend and you will be their friend. There will always be plenty to eat, we will never grow tired or weary, and heaven will be beautiful. The best part is that we will live there forever.
Wherever we live on earth is for just a while. Some of us may only live in a place for a month before we leave while others may stay in the same place for many years, but eventually our stay in our house will be over and we will move to the right place in heaven. It will be good and we will like the change. The property deed is only good for the time we stay in the house. If we sell it, someone else gets the property deed.
Life on earth is temporary and there is no way to change the plan of God, but someday you are going to have a wonderful place in heaven.
