In my Father's house there are many dwelling places. If it were not so, would I
have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? (v. 2)
Good morning, boys and girls. How many of you live in a house? (let them answer) I have four things to show you and I want you to tell me the room in the house that each one belongs to and then I want you to tell me the one room that is your favorite room. (hold up the four items and ask them to identify them one at a time and the room they belong to) You are pretty good. Some of you like the kitchen best and others like their bedroom or their dad's tool shop. A few of you like the room that has the television in it.
We love our homes and when we grow up and move out of the home that our parents live in we are sad to leave. Home is a wonderful place and we always remember the place we liked the best when we were growing up.
People used to ask Jesus about heaven and what it was like to be in heaven. We are the same way. We hear about heaven. But what is it really like to be there. Are the houses big, are the streets beautiful, and are there a lot of playgrounds and green trees and flowers? We believe that everything will be perfect, that there will be no sickness and pain. When you are in heaven with Jesus there will be no death.
I am not sure what heaven will look like. I don't know if there will be houses with beautiful rooms and skies that are always blue. I do know one thing for sure and that is Jesus promised there was space for all of us.
When I was growing up, my mom and dad always made my house the best place in the world for me to grow up. It was just a great place for me and my brother and sister to live and to learn. I always felt safe. I was not cold or too hot but just right. My parents made it that way for me.
Jesus tells us in the Bible that he is going to heaven to make a place for everyone of us. It will be a special place that will make us feel right at home. There will be nothing to make us afraid. We will have the perfect life with God. It will be great. I believe Jesus. I know if my mom and dad can make things wonderful for me on earth and they do the best they can, then I know heaven will be great because Jesus went on ahead and prepared just the right place for me. I love the way God thinks of everything. Amen.
