Pray as Jesus did
Children's Activity
Teachers or Parents: There is so much to talk about in the
Passion Sunday readings that one needs to pick something specific
to focus on. This gospel reading gives us a good opportunity to
talk about prayer. We can help our children understand prayer if
we look at the way Jesus prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane.
*Ask the children to name things that they have prayed about
in the last few weeks and make a list on a board or easel.
Discuss all these items in light of the way Jesus prayed. Are the
children aware of the need to pray that God's will be done and
not our own?
*Help the children compose a prayer regarding something
relevant to the needs of the church at this time. Write the
prayer on the board or easel and let them work with it until it
meets the requirements of a good prayer.
Sunday school assembly opening:
*Open with a prayer in which all the children participate.
The leader begins and then ends the prayer with all the children
contributing at least one petition.
