Pray for the sick
Children's sermon
Object:
a bottle of aspirin
Good morning, boys and girls. How many of you say a prayer
before you eat? (Let them answer.) How many of you say a prayer
before you go to bed? (Let them answer.) Do you ever pray at
other times? (Let them answer.) This morning I want to tell you
about a little girl your age who prayed at mealtime and at supper
time, just like you. She also learned to pray at other times
during the day. This girl had a grandmother whom she would visit
from time to time. She really loved to visit her grandmother
because her grandmother always had interesting things planned
when she visited.
Her grandmother became rather ill. She had to take a lot of medicine. (Show the aspirin bottle.) The grandmother became so ill that she had to go to the hospital. This worried the little girl very much. It worried her so that she didn't really know what to do about it. She made a get well card and sent it to the hospital. The girl wanted to do even more. That week in Sunday school the girl's class talked about prayer. Her teacher told her that the Bible says to pray for other people. The Bible says to pray for people who are sick so that they may be healed. The Bible says that prayers of good people have great power and have wonderful results. When the girl heard this she knew what she would do for her grandmother. What do you suppose she did? (Let them answer.) She went home and prayed for her grandmother to get better. She asked God to help her grandmother. Here's what I want you to remember this week. Remember to thank God for your food -- that's when you pray before you eat. Thank God when you go to bed -- that's when you say your bedtime prayer. Also, ask God to help people who are sick and who need help. God wants you to pray for those people. God answers prayers.
