Prayer is important!

Good morning! When Saint Paul wrote to the Christians at
Colosse, a city in what is now the country of Turkey, he assured
them that he prayed for them a lot. I want you to tell me this
morning about your own prayers. Who do you pray for? (Let them
answer and write down on the pad the people that they pray for,
i.e., grandparents, friends, parents, and so forth.)
Okay, that's a good list. Let's see if I can suggest some
other people that we should be praying for. Should we be praying
for the people who are doing missionary work all over the world?
(Let them answer and add them to the list.) How about our fellow
Christians all over the world who are being persecuted, those who
are suffering because they believe in Jesus as their Savior? (Let
them answer and continue to add whoever might be of local concern
to the list.)
That's a good list of people to pray for. Why do you think
God wants us to pray for other people? (Let them answer.) Prayer
is very important because prayer can change things. If we
continue to talk to God in prayer, it will strengthen the people
we pray for. We know that God is already aware of the needs of
people before we pray, but He tells us to pray and He knows
whether or not we will pray even before we do it. So our prayers
will make a difference. Do you see why it is important to pray
for other people? (Let them answer.)
Dear Lord: We know that you have told us to pray for other
people. We bring to you in prayer all the people we have listed
here and ask that you help them all in their needs. Amen.
