The price of admission
Children's sermon
Object:
an entrance ticket or stub
Good morning! How many of you have gone to a movie at a theater? (Let them answer.) How do you get into the movie? Do you just walk in and watch the show, or do you have to do something to get in? (Let them answer.) Yes, of course, you have to buy a ticket. Here's a ticket that I bought to see __________. (Show them the ticket or stub.) If I had not paid the price of admission, they wouldn't let me in, would they? (Let them answer.)
Now, I want you to know that there is a price of admission to Heaven also. You can't get in unless the price is paid, and the price is a very high one. It's not money that has to be paid, so that's not the answer. What do you think the price of admission is to get into Heaven? (Let them answer.) Let me help you find the answer. I'll give you a hint. The price has already been paid by someone else. You don't have to pay admission into Heaven because somebody paid it for you. Now, who was it that paid the price? (Let them answer.) Yes, it was Jesus. He paid the price of admission when he died on the cross. He paid everybody's admission, but not everyone will get in. A lot of people whose admission is paid will not go to Heaven. Why not? (Let them answer.) They won't get in because they don't believe in Jesus! Only those who believe in Jesus will get in. It's like everyone has a ticket, but some people won't pick up the ticket. They won't believe that they have a ticket. That's really sad, isn't it? (Let them answer.)
Well, you and I know that we have a free ticket from Jesus. Let's thank him for it.
Dear Jesus: Thank you so much for paying the price of admission for us so that we can all go to Heaven. Amen.
