A promise fulfilled
Children's sermon
Object:
A passport or any identification that shows nationality
Good morning! Does anyone know what this is? (Show the
passport.) This is a passport. This is the kind of identification
you would need if you were traveling to another country in Europe
or Asia. I used this when I went to ____________. (Talk about a
travel experience.)
One thing that a passport shows is your nationality. It
shows that I'm a citizen of the United States. If I was a citizen
of Germany or France or some other country, I would have a
passport from that country.
They didn't have passports when Jesus lived, but if they
did, what kind of passport would he have? Would he have a
passport from the United States? (Let them answer.) No, this
country didn't even exist then. Jesus was a Jew from Israel, so
if they had passports, he would have had one that showed he was
Jewish.
Now, this is important because God had promised that the
Messiah would be a descendant of Abraham, and Abraham was a Jew.
Messiah is a word that describes the one that God promised to
send to save us all from the power of the devil. The Messiah had
to be a Jew, and Jesus was a Jew. This is only one of many, many
promises of God that were fulfilled in the life of Jesus. Aren't
you glad that God always keeps His promises? (Let them answer.)
Let's thank God for always keeping His promises.
Dear God: We thank You for being a God that we can rely on -- a
God who always does what He promises He will do. Amen.
