Put them on!
Children's sermon
Object:
items of clothing labeled "compassion," "kindness,"
"humility," "meekness," and "patience."
Good morning! The Bible tells us that we should clothe
ourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and
patience. Now all of you want to do what God tells us to do,
don't you? (Let them answer.) Good. I brought some things with me
today so we could do that. Here's a shirt labeled "compassion,"
so let's put that on _____________. (Put that item on a child.)
Here's another item labeled "kindness," and we will put that on
_____________. (Put that on another child, and continue until all
five items are on somebody.) Now, we have clothed ourselves with
all five of these things. Do you think that's what God meant for
us to do? (Let them answer.) No, that's not what He means. What
does it mean? (Let them answer.) It means that we need to be
compassionate and kind and humble and meek and patient. Let's
talk about what that means. (As time allows, explain the terms to
them.)
I'm sure none of us do as well as we ought to with any of
those things, but we need to try, and only God can help us do
better. Let's ask God to help us do that.
Dear Father in Heaven: We need Your help if we are to be more
compassionate, kind, humble, meek, and patient. Please help us to
be better. Amen.
