Raised in glory
Children's sermon
Object:
a package of flower seeds
Good morning, boys and girls. Have any of you ever planted a
seed and watched it grow into a plant? (Let them answer.) I want
to tell you the story about some seeds like these. There was once
a package of seeds. These seeds were asleep in the package. The
package was on a shelf in a store waiting for someone to pick
them up and buy them. One day a little boy came along. He was
looking for some seeds to buy so that he could plant them in his
garden. He chose the package of seeds of some flowers like these
(show the seed package). He took them home and opened the package
like this (open the package and place the seeds in your hand).
These seeds were asleep. The boy thought that they looked dead.
He planted the seeds, watered them and then went away. After a
few days the seeds woke up and began to grow. The seeds grew into
plants just like the ones on the cover of the package.
These seeds remind me of this morning's lesson. When the seeds are planted they appear to be dead. They appear as if there is no life in them at all. The person that plants them knows that something will happen to the seeds, however. After the seeds are in the ground something wonderful happens. The seeds wake up and change into beautiful flowers. That's the same thing that happens to Christians. Jesus is like a seed. He died but came back to life so that we all may have life. Without the hope of Jesus' resurrection our life has no meaning. Jesus is our hope. We believe death is not the end but a new beginning.
The next time you see some seeds remember that the seeds are only asleep. They remind us of Jesus. Without the hope of Jesus' resurrection life has no meaning. Jesus is our hope.
