Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice. (v. 4)
Good morning, boys and girls! How are you this morning? (allow answers) Today we are going to talk about joy. Who can tell me what "joy" is? (allow answers) Joy is when you feel very, very happy. Who can tell me about a time when you have felt joy? (allow answers) We feel joy when good things happen to us. We might feel joy when a baby is born, when people get married, when someone gets a job, and when someone graduates from high school or college. Many times when we are joyful, we have a party so that we can share our joy with others.
What do we do when we have parties to share our joy? (allow answers) We might have party hats. We probably have cake. We might take pictures or make a video. We invite all our friends and family members. We tell people about our good news and eat together to celebrate.
How often do you go to parties like that? (allow answers) Imagine if you could have a party like that every day. Whoa! Would you like that?
Our Bible verse today says, "Rejoice in the Lord always; again, I will say, Rejoice!" In a way, that verse is telling us that we should have a party every day. Or at least that we should live as if every day is as exciting and full of joy as a celebration.
What are some ways you can live as if it is a party every day? (allow answers) While it may not be good to do some things every day -- like eat cake or skip work -- there are some things we can do. We can have a good attitude. We can smile. We can greet our friends and neighbors with joy.
Let's make a deal this week to live as if it's a party every day. Spend your week smiling, because every day is a celebration. It's a celebration of the life that we have and the blessings that God has given us. Amen.
