Rejoice always!
Children's Activity
Object:
Teachers: Focus your activity on the second lesson this
morning. The text speaks about rejoicing always. As children get
closer to Christmas there is a tendency to think about what gifts
are soon to be received. Remind your students that this morning's
lesson tells us to be thankful for what we have. Have your class
make a list of things worth thanking God for this Advent season.
Ask your class for examples. Write these examples on a poster or
chalkboard. Help students start the list by suggesting things
like: family members, church family, God's love, and so on.
After you compile your list give each student a piece of paper. Have them write a letter to God. The letter could simply say, "Thank you God for ... (student mentions something here)." Have the student draw a picture of what he is thankful for on the letter.
Parents: Your child is thinking of things that he is thankful for. Help him create a list of things to be thankful for. Try to create a list with seven items. Write the items down, with a day of the week (Monday through Sunday) listed beside the item. Post the list somewhere in your house. Each day remind your child to check the list. See what your child should be thankful for today.
