Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. (v. 4)
Good morning, boys and girls or should I say, "Rejoice, boys and girls"? I like the word "rejoice," don't you? Let's all say the word "rejoice." (let them repeat it) Let's even try it a different way. I want each one of you to say, "Rejoice," but only after the person standing next to you says, "Rejoice." I will start it and then I will point to the next person and they will say it and then I will point to the next person to say it until everyone has said it. (practice it once or twice)
Wasn't that exciting? This is Thanksgiving day and we are filled with joy. Thanksgiving is a wonderful time for us. All of the crops that were planted in the spring have been harvested. We have potatoes, corn, and berries of all sorts, fish, turkey, and lots of fruit for pies, cakes, and ice cream. Our bodies will be filled with good food. We should rejoice. Let's say it again. All together say, "Rejoice."
We have our families. Many of us are together today to celebrate Thanksgiving: our grandparents, our aunts and uncles, our cousins, and our parents come together on Thanksgiving. If we can't see them, we can talk to them on the telephone. This is also wonderful. We should say it again. Let's say, "Rejoice!"
We are in God's house. We are with our family, with friends and neighbors, and we sing great hymns and listen to the choir and listen to God's word. Church makes Thanksgiving seem like the place to be. Let's say it again, "Rejoice!"
Then there is the best part of it all. Not only do we have good food to eat and time to share with our families, there is also someone present in church that really makes this a Thanksgiving. The Lord is here; isn't that something? In every pew, in every aisle, in the sanctuary and as high as the ceiling, we find the Lord. The Lord is here, let us say it again. The Lord is here, "Rejoice!"
Because we are rejoicing I want to give every one of you a little happy face that you can wear on your forehead. When people see you, they will smile because you have smiles all over you. You have one on your forehead and you have one on your face. You are rejoicing. That's right, "Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say rejoice." Amen.
