Repent and believe
Children's Activity
Object:
Teachers or Parents: The good news that God will forgive
repentant sinners is something we all need to hear frequently.
Jesus calls on us to repent because unless we understand that we
have sinned we will not know that we need a Savior. We can only
believe in Jesus as our Savior to the degree that we know that we
need a savior. We need to impress this truth on our children.
*Ask the children to form two groups. One group will be all
those who have not committed any sins this week and the other
group will be those who have sinned in some way. The most likely
result will be that all will admit that they have sinned. You can
then compliment them for their honesty and talk about how Jesus
forgives us when we admit our sin. If they form two groups, you
can convince the "sinless" group that they are wrong, and then
ask them to join the other group. In the very unlikely event that
they all get into the "sinless" group, you can have a discussion
of what constitutes sin in the eyes of God so that they will
realize that they have sinned.
*Write on the board or easel the two words, "Repentance" and
"Forgiveness." Ask the children to give actual examples of both
and write them down beneath the words. Discuss the examples they
give until you are satisfied that they understand both words.
